Jamie Maher, MSW, RSW (she/they) is a Mi’kmaw, queer woman who was born and raised in Nova Scotia. Jamie earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Dalhousie University and a Master of Social Work from Memorial University. Jamie spent several years working in Child Protection, community service, Mental Health and Addictions, and grass roots Indigenous organizations. Jamie works with youth, young adults, and adults addressing a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and intergenerational trauma.

Jamie’s practice is queer affirming, anti-racist, sex positive, body neutral, non-monogamy/poly-am informed, and feminist. They continuously work toward integrating decolonial and anti-oppressive values in their work with clients. As an integrated therapist Jamie has dedicated training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Jamie works to recognize the ways that marginalized communities are disproportionately impacted by mental health struggles within intersecting oppressive systems. As an Indigenous queer fat woman, Jamie brings an awareness of mental health, addiction, and stigma through lived experience. Because of this, she brings a warm sense of humor to her practice in a way that can make therapy seem less intimidating.

Jamie is registered to provide services to clients in Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Nova Scotia.
