Steven Nero, BA, MSW, RSW (he/him) is a Registered Social Worker born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg with a major in psychology and minor in sociology as well as a Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Manitoba, specializing in clinical social work. Steven enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds with his primary areas of focus being therapy for trauma, depression, anxiety, abuse, loss, grief, self-esteem, suicidality, relationship issues, family therapy, and substance use. Steven has a passion for providing affirming and supportive services to those who are gender and sexually diverse. He draws on both formal education and lived experience as a gay man growing up in Winnipeg when supporting those who hold or are exploring queer identities.
As an integrative therapist, Steven’s practice is framed by strength-based, solution-focused, client-centred, recovery-oriented, attachment-based, and trauma-informed approaches. Within his practice, he draws on a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy. Steven works to incorporate anti-racist, anti-oppressive, queer affirming, sex positive, and harm reduction perspectives into his social work practice and values establishing a sense of cultural safety with his clients.
Steven is registered to provide services as clinical social worker to Manitoba residents. His services are covered by most insurance providers and he is an approved provider with Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB).
